Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to make my model?
Custom manufacturing in our Brussels workshop takes an average of one and a half days for a 30x30 cm model, and about 16 hours for a 20x20 cm version. During your order, a live estimate is provided: it depends on the current order queue and the delivery times of your chosen carrier. We treat every customer equally, which is why it is not possible to pay extra for priority processing or shorter manufacturing times.
Currently, the wait time is 1 day(s).
What materials is my model made of?
We use PLA, a very common plastic in 3D printing, bio-sourced from corn starch. This material is very durable over time, but it is slightly sensitive to moisture and should not be exposed to direct UV sunlight for prolonged periods. It is therefore exclusively designed for indoor use.
Can I order any location in the world?
Yes, we have data for the entire world! However, please note that some regions of the world may have less data available on OpenStreetMap than others. This is why we always offer a live preview of your map, so you can see exactly what it will look like before ordering.
Will my model be made exactly as in the preview?
When you request a preview of your model, we instantly generate the exact files that will be used for its 3D printing. The geometry will therefore be identical. We have tried to reproduce the colors as best as possible, but these remain relative since they depend on the lighting of your screen, so there may be slight variations with the final product. Additionally, 3D printing works by depositing material layer by layer. This process naturally creates a visual effect reminiscent of contour lines on physical maps. We advise you to visit our gallery to see comparison examples between 3D preview renders and the actual models.
What is the scale of the models?
Our current models, whether in 20x20 cm or 30x30 cm format, are made at a scale of 1:5000. Specifically, the 20x20 cm model represents a geographical square of 1 km by 1 km, and the 30x30 cm model corresponds to an area of 1.5 km by 1.5 km. We aim to offer new scales in the near future. Feel free to subscribe to our newsletter to be notified of our new releases!
What happens if I am not satisfied with my model?
Your satisfaction is our top priority. If your model arrives damaged or has a manufacturing defect, please contact our customer service at [email protected] within 14 days of receipt. To speed up the dispatch of a replacement model, we ask you to take photos of the damaged package, the opened package, and the damage on the model itself. This will greatly help us send you a new model as quickly as possible.
Where does the data used for the models come from?
This data primarily comes from OpenStreetMap (we would also like to warmly thank all contributors for their exceptional work). For elevation, we use the Copernicus 30m model from the European Space Agency, as well as very high-resolution data directly from various national geographic institutes, including: * France: IGN (National Institute of Geographic and Forest Information) * Spain: CNIG (National Center for Geographic Information) * Germany: Regional agencies (BKG, Geobasis NRW...) * Belgium: Geoportal of Wallonia, Digitaal Vlaanderen (Flanders) and UrbIS (Brussels) * Portugal: DGT (Directorate-General for Territory) * Italy: CNR (National Research Council) We constantly update our data sources, which allows us to quickly enrich our models with the most recent information available.
What level of detail can I expect?
For buildings, we mainly use OpenStreetMap data. These provide at least the footprint of the buildings, and for more complex structures (such as over 150,000 iconic buildings in Europe), we have extremely precise 3D geometry. We carefully differentiate green areas from urbanized areas, with an excellent level of detail regarding the position and height of trees. However, please note that very small trees cannot appear on the final print due to the scale of the model. Finally, the model naturally includes the entire transport network (roads, paths) as well as water bodies and courses (lakes, rivers, ponds, streams, etc.). We are constantly improving our 3D reconstruction algorithms. This is why we are always very happy to receive your feedback if you notice any potential flaws on your renders or your models!
